A midweek version of our Cape Ann ride, starting from the Cox Reservation in Essex. The 43 miler includes MBTS and Magnolia before entering Gloucester and then circling Cape Ann for scenic ocean views. Rockport is a good midway stop for refilling water bottles and public restrooms, as well as admiring Artists Motif #1 (the red fishing shack). More scenic views await as we detour off Rt 127 to Lane’s Cove and cross the pedestrian bridge in Annisquam. Returning through Gloucester, we’ll head back to the Cox Reservation via Rt. 133 and Concord St, Conomo Point, and Lufkin St — among the most beautiful coastal roads we ride on the NS.
The 29 mile option splits at mile 17.4 after going around Rocky Neck for a tantalizing taste of Cape Ann, then doubles back through Gloucester to rejoin the 43 mile route.
Lunch at J.T. Farnum’s, a short walk from the Cox Reservation parking lot, for a ringside view of the Essex River estuary and its shorebird activity.
