The Urban Adventure ride is a different type of ride than most NSC outings. The ride takes advantage of number of dedicated multi-use trails and bike routes serving communities close to Boston. The trail system has mostly been developed in the last decade and includes the Northern Strand, Tri-Community Trail, the Minuteman, the Somerville and Cambridge community paths and the Mystic River trail system. We'll loop the Charlestown Navy Yard and ride along the Encore Casino's restored waterfront (we won't stop to gamble but you can return after the ride if you like). Expect an average speed of 11-12 mph and heavy street traffic on some parts of the ride. While all surfaces are paved there are some rough spots on the streets so a minimum tire size of 28 is recommended.
In addition to some nice trails, you'll get great views of Mystic Lakes, the Mystic River, Boston Harbor and the Boston and Cambridge skylines. Lunch will be at Brewer's Fork in Charlestown, less than 3 miles from the end of the ride.
