• Arrive early to coordinate pre-ride activities.
  • Be prepared and available to answer questions about the ride, mileage, food or bathroom stops, etc.
  • Identify any non-members and make sure they sign the waiver. Ask if they have the GPS route or need a cue sheet. Non-members are allowed one ride with the club as a non-member.
  • If it is not obvious that a rider will be wearing a helmet, tell them the NSC requires helmets. Do not allow riders without helmets to participate in the ride.
  • Make your best effort to identify riders who do not have someone to ride with and wish to ride with someone.
  • Gather the group just before ride time and remind them briefly of basic safety guidelines (see the Safety Talk and Starting the Ride section linked to below)
  • Standing on a step stool / ladder will help you gain control of the audience.
  • When faced with a large crowd (typically on Sundays) it will help to divide riders into smaller groups based on the distance riders intend to ride. In such a case, consider having an experienced rider assist in getting riders signed in and in giving separate safety talks to the smaller groups.
